Mill City Goes ZERO WASTE

MAKE DIRT NOT WASTE!
In partnership with Eureka Recycling,
Mill City Farmers Market starts COMPOSTING!

Please join us on Saturday, September 12th. Eureka Recycling and the City of Minneapolis will host a joint press event to announce that Mill City Farmers Market is now composting- making it Minnesota's first ZERO WASTE FARMERS MARKET!

11:00am Minneapolis Mayor RT Rybak will speak and hand out free compost to market-goers who take the Minnesota Energy Challenge. We'll also hear from Mill City Farmers Market Director Marjorie Hegstrom, and Eureka Recycling's COO Tim Brownell.

CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS:
The Zero Waste Market will be made possible by the help of a strong team of Zero Waste Educators. Several volunteers are needed on Saturdays now- October 17th for shifts of 2.5 hours. Volunteers are completely essential to this project and will be thanked with market goodies and prize drawings! For more information and to sign up for a shift or two contact:

WANT TO KNOW MORE?

Eureka Recycling will be working with the market's staff and vendors to make the transition to a Zero Waste Market, where all of the "waste" generated at the market by food sales, samples, and events will be composted or recycled! Instead of trash cans, the market will have Zero Waste Stations where market shoppers can compost their plates, cups, and food scraps and recycle any bottles and cans they may have. With everyone's help, Mill City will greatly reduce our carbon foot print!

What is compostable?
The compost collected at the market will go to a commercial composting facility that can compost:
- ANY food scraps- including meat and dairy products
-paper cups, paper plates, paper boats
-napkins, paper towels, waxed paper
-compostable utensils, clear cups and straws made from bio-based plastic
